Coming Soon: Superfast Internet

April 6, 2008

Article of the day:

Coming Soon: Superfast Internet says that a new net called “the grid”, currently being developed at the world’s largest particle physics lab near Geneva, will have “speeds about 10,000 times faster than a typical broadband connection [and] will be able to send the entire Rolling Stones back catalogue from Britain to Japan in less than two seconds.” It will also enable holograpic imaging and promises to completely change the way humans communicate in the future.

But the best part is in the comments, sampled below:

“I want to be isolated within a capsule, partially submerged in a gelatinous substance. I want to exist in a semi-vegetative state and be fed intravenously while my physical mind is wired into a holographic, grid-based collective, where it will be bombarded with archetypal images of what it’s like to be human. But I do not want to pay more than $39.99 per month for this, no installation fee, and I want first 3 months free if they don’t include HBO. — MacGuffin, Panama City, Florida”

“So, at one end of the spectrum of human endeavor you have this wonderful example of brilliant cooperative ingenuity; at the other is Terminal 5. — David Masu, Zurich”

“holographic porn? YES! — john, hobart”

All you need to know about what we are doing in Iraq.

Based on hand-held videos shot by National Guard troops serving their country, some of whom are on their 5th tour. Watch how tired these people are and ask yourself why we allow this to happen.

Frontline presents Bad Voodoo’s War. (To watch the video, click on theĀ  “Watch the Full Program Online” link on the right side of the page.)
